Private Medical Certificates in Manchester and Cheshire

Medical certificates and health assessments are needed across a wide range of situations; a new job, a driving licence renewal, a university application, a sports licence, an insurance claim, or a visa for travel and migration. From our clinic in Hale, Dr Natalie Summerhill MBBS, RCGP (2015), DRCOG, DFSRH provides private GP examinations, testing and certification across all of these, with same-day appointments available where deadlines are tight.

Every certificate carries its own requirements, whether that’s a specific examination, a set of blood tests, a standardised form, or a particular wording the requesting authority expects. Our role is to know what each authority needs, complete the examination thoroughly, and produce documentation that meets the standard first time. This avoids repeat appointments, missed deadlines, and the back-and-forth that delays your application.

With expertise across employment, education, sports, driving, travel and visa certifications, we make sure your examination and paperwork are completed to the exact specification your requesting authority needs.

What to Expect

At your appointment, Dr Summerhill will work through the specific examination your certificate or form requires. This may include a full physical examination, blood pressure and cardiovascular checks, vision testing, a urine sample, and any blood tests the requesting authority specifies. The form itself is completed in clinic where possible. Where laboratory results are needed, the paperwork is finalised once those come back, typically within 48 to 72 hours.

New patient examinations typically take 60 minutes; existing patient appointments take 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the type of certificate.

Did You Know?

Every certificate has its own shelf life. A visa medical is usually valid for 6 months from issue. A DVLA medical can be requested up to 4 months before your licence renewal date. Employment medicals are often required to be dated within a few weeks of your start date. University health forms typically need to be signed within the same academic year.

The right time to book depends on the deadline you’re working to, not on a generic rule. We’ll talk you through the timing for your specific certificate when you book, so you arrive with the right paperwork and your certificate stays valid through to submission.

FAQs

  • What kind of certificates can you issue?

Dr Summerhill issues medical certificates and health assessments for a wide range of situations, including employment, fitness to drive, university and education, sports, travel, insurance, and visa applications. If you’re not sure whether we can issue the specific certificate or form you need, contact us with the details and we’ll confirm before you book.

  • What documents do I need to bring?

Please bring photo ID, any specific forms required by the requesting authority, and relevant medical history. For visa medicals, bring your passport and any documentation provided by the embassy.

  • How long does the examination take?

New patient medical examinations typically take 60 minutes and between 20 and 30 minutes for existing patients, though this may vary depending on the type of certificate required.

  • When will I receive my certificate?

Many certificates can be provided on the same day. For those requiring laboratory tests or additional documentation, we aim to complete everything within 48-72 hours.

  • How far in advance should I book?

    This depends on the certificate.

    • For visa medicals, we recommend booking 3 to 4 months before your intended travel date, which allows time for any additional tests, document processing, embassy submission, and a comfortable validity window when you present the certificate.
    • For DVLA medicals, you can request the examination up to 4 months before your renewal date.
    • For employment medicals, book once you have a start date, since employers usually expect a recent examination. We’ll advise on timing when you book.
  • Do you provide translation services?

While our certificates are issued in English, we can advise on getting official translations if needed for specific countries.

  • What health checks are included?

This varies by country and visa type. We’ll inform you of the specific examinations needed for your destination when you book your appointment.

  • Are your certificates internationally recognised?

Yes. Our certificates are recognised by embassies, government authorities, employers, universities, sports governing bodies, and professional bodies in the UK and internationally. Dr Natalie Summerhill is regulated by the General Medical Council (No. 6143246), the Care Quality Commission, and the RCGP.

  • How much does it cost?

Fees vary depending on the type of certificate and examinations required. Please contact us for current pricing for your specific needs.

  • Do I need to prepare anything before the examination?

Some medical examinations may require fasting or specific preparations. We’ll provide detailed instructions when you book your appointment.
