About the WID-easy® Test
What is the WID-easy® test?
The WID-easy® test is a pioneering new diagnostic tool that uses a simple cervico-vaginal sample (similar to a smear test) to provide powerful reassurance. It is designed specifically to help triage women experiencing abnormal uterine bleeding.
The test uses cutting-edge technology to detect the methylation status of specific DNA markers (GYPC and ZSCAN12), which are strongly associated with endometrial (womb) cancer. This simple, non-invasive swab represents a significant development, offering a new way to get clarity and avoid unnecessary invasive procedures with a high degree of confidence.
Who is the WID-easy® test for?
The test is indicated for women aged 45 and over who are presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB).
It is particularly useful for providing reassurance and helping to guide the next steps, especially in cases where a traditional ultrasound may be less clear (for example, in women with fibroids or a high BMI).
A consultation with Dr Summerhill is necessary to discuss your symptoms and medical history to determine if the test is appropriate for you.

Our Endometriosis Test Service
| Service | Price | Description |
|---|---|---|
| WID-easy® test, Consultation & Analysis | £495 | Comprehensive womb health assessment that includes a consultation, the WID-easy test to detect DNA markers linked with endometrial cancer, full laboratory analysis and a follow-up to discuss your results and next steps. |
We believe in providing clear information and support throughout your diagnostic journey. Our approach ensures you feel informed and comfortable at every stage of the WID-easy® test process.
Before Your Appointment
- Complete our standard online registration form if you are new to the clinic.
- Prepare to discuss your symptoms and medical history in detail.
- You will have a dedicated opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions you have about your symptoms or the test itself.
- For an accurate result, the test must be performed before a transvaginal ultrasound or PAP smear. If you have already had one, we must wait at least 3 days.
- Please do not clean the vaginal area before your appointment, and avoid sexual intercourse for at least 24 hours prior.
During Your Appointment
- A private consultation to discuss the procedure and confirm if the WID-easy® test is suitable for you.
- A clear explanation of the simple, 5-step sample collection process.
- The sample collection itself is gentle, non-invasive, and very quick, much like a standard smear test, and is supervised by Dr Summerhill.
- We ensure there is plenty of time to ask questions without any rush or pressure.
After Your Appointment
- Your sample is sent securely to the laboratory for analysis.
- We will explain when to expect your test results, which will be either Positive or Negative. Results are typically available within 10 working days of the lab receiving the sample.
- A follow-up consultation is required to discuss your results and what they mean for you.
- A Negative result provides an extremely high level of reassurance (99.7% Negative Predictive Value), allowing you to confidently avoid more invasive investigations.
- A Positive result does not mean you have cancer, but it helps us to prioritise and fast-track you for the right follow-up investigations (like an ultrasound or hysteroscopy) to find out exactly what is going on. We will coordinate these next steps with you.
I usually dread blood tests but Summerhill Health made it practically stress-free.
Easy to book, easy to find an appointment that suited, and a brilliant nurse who could take blood without me hardly realising! So good, I went back for a repeat.
Frequently Asked Questions
The WID-easy® is a new, non-invasive diagnostic tool for women aged 45 and over who are experiencing abnormal uterine bleeding. It uses a simple cervico-vaginal swab to test for specific DNA markers associated with womb (uterus) cancer, helping to “rule out” the condition with a high degree of certainty.
The test is designed for women 45 years and older with symptoms of abnormal uterine bleeding. A consultation with Dr Summerhill is required to discuss your full medical history and confirm your suitability for the test.
The test has specific requirements for an accurate sample. We will discuss this with you, but generally, the test cannot be performed within 24 hours of sexual intercourse and must be taken before any other procedure, like a PAP smear or vaginal ultrasound (or at least 3 days after).
The test has demonstrated excellent accuracy in clinical studies. It has:
- Sensitivity: 91.5% (the ability to correctly identify those with the condition)
- Specificity: 71.1% (the ability to correctly identify those without the condition)
- Negative Predictive Value (NPV): 99.7% (This is its most powerful feature. It means a “Negative” result provides extremely high confidence and reassurance that endometrial cancer is not present.)
- Positive Predictive Value (PPV): 50.0% (This reinforces that the test is for triage. A “Positive” result means there is a 50/50 chance, and it correctly identifies you as someone who needs a follow-up investigation (like a hysteroscopy) to find out exactly what is going on.)
Once your sample is sent to the laboratory, you can typically expect your results to be back with us at the clinic within 10 working days. We will then contact you to book your follow-up consultation.
No. The WID-easy® is an advanced triage tool. It is designed to determine if you need further invasive tests. Because of its high accuracy in ruling cancer out, a negative result can help you and Dr Summerhill confidently decide to avoid a biopsy or hysteroscopy. A positive result helps to identify who needs those tests on a priority basis.
We will discuss your results in a dedicated follow-up consultation.
- If your result is Negative, you are in the 99.7% clear. We can be highly reassured and focus on managing your symptoms without the need for invasive investigations.
- If your result is Positive, Dr Summerhill will arrange a priority referral for the necessary follow-up tests to get a complete picture and ensure you get the right care plan.
